As Massive Oil Spill Approaches Florida, Republican Rick Scott Still Wants to Expand Oil Drilling
As the disastrous oil spill approaches our state, many Floridians are rightly standing in strong opposition to drilling off Florida's beaches -- the headline in today's Miami Herald even reads "Oil slick has candidates sliding away from offshore drilling". But not disgraced businessman Republican Rick Scott. In fact, Rick Scott still supports the expansion of offshore oil drilling, and has yet to change his position after the catastrophic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
"If disgraced businessman Rick Scott still thinks expanding oil drilling near Florida's beaches is a good idea as our state faces a historic economic and environmental disaster, he clearly doesn't have the judgment needed to be Florida's next Governor," said Eric Jotkoff, spokesman for the Florida Democratic Party. "With positions like these, Floridians can't trust Rick Scott to look out for the best interest of our state."
From Rick Scott's Website: "We must stop being dependent on other countries for oil. We need to build more nuclear plants, invest in alternative fuels and drill off shore." The website continued by saying: "Rick supports expansion of nuclear power, use of alternative fuels and off-shore drilling." (http://www.rickscottforflorida.com/issues.html)
