FDP Statement on Feeney’s Ethics Violation

For Immediate Release, January 4, 2006

TALLAHASSEE - Florida Democratic Party spokesman Mark Bubriski issued the following statement on the House ethics committee's announcement that Congressman Tom Feeney violated House rules for his part in the Jack Abramoff scandal:

"Congressman Feeney, oft cited as one of the most corrupt members of Congress, violated the code of ethics of the U.S. House of Representatives, on at least one occasion, by egregiously accepting a high-priced golfing vacation from a now-convicted felon.

"However, Congressman Feeney owes more than just a check to the U.S. Treasury. He owes the people of Florida an explanation for why he violated their trust.

"In November, the American people said, ‘Enough is enough' - and elected Democrats to the majority in Congress.

"The American people chose Democrats to lead, in part, because of the corruption of Republicans like Congressman Feeney.

"Democrats take over the House today, opening a new chapter for Congress, where ethics will be taken seriously. Congressman Feeney should take note."
