Florida Democratic Party Sends Bill McCollum Invoice for Misuse of Florida Funds

Party Bills McCollum for Discredited "Expert" Witness, Self-Promoting Campaign Commercials, and Frivolous Lawsuits Benefiting His Lobbying Buddy

Today, the Florida Democratic Party sent an invoice to Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum on behalf of Florida taxpayers, requesting that he pay back the over $2.4 million that he has spent for his own personal gain and partisan agenda. 

The invoice bills McCollum's campaign for the full $120,000 McCollum directed towards George Rekers for "expert" testimony, the $2.2 million McCollum spent on a no-bid contract to his political consultant for self-promoting TV ads, and the $50,000 going to McCollum's old lobbying firm for his frivolous health care lawsuit.

"While Bill McCollum may think spending millions on campaign ads, no-bid contracts to his political buddies and discredited testimony by an anti-gay activist should count as legitimate expenses, hardworking Floridians disagree," said Florida Democratic Party spokesperson Eric Jotkoff. "That's why on behalf of the taxpayers of Florida, we are sending Bill McCollum an invoice for the at least $2.4 million of Floridians' money he has wasted for his own personal gain and partisan stunts."

Jotkoff said this abuse of state funds and tax dollars is even more egregious given the current budget and unemployment crises facing Florida.  The Florida Democratic Party is invoicing Bill McCollum for Governor for at least $2,437,882, the amount of McCollum's spending exposed as waste.  The money should be paid to the Florida Division of Treasury within 30 days.
