Florida Democratic Party sticking with its decision

FORT MYERS: Despite a threat from the National Democratic Party to strip Florida of its 210 delegates if it holds a primary before February 5th, the Florida Democratic Party is sticking with their decision to hold a January 29th primary.

"We will be voting as Democrats on January 29th for our presidential candidate on the ballot," said Karen Thurman the leader of the Florida Democratic Party.

What does this mean for Florida voters? That your vote might not count.

But Thurman disagrees saying "that it means those people who want to go to the polls on January 29th will be able to vote. That's what this United States is all about-making our voices heard."

Florida Gulf Coast University Professor Peter Bergerson said that this move "puts Florida at the beginning of the primary process," meaning it will have more influence on the presidential race.

"Florida wants to be in the position of being a king-maker," Bergerson said. "It's good for Florida to move it up."

Whether voters decide to hit the polls on January 29 or not, Florida Democrats are standing their ground and wait to see if the National Party fires back.
