Out-of-Touch Republicans Attack Camping
For Immediate Release: April 7, 2008
TALLAHASSEE - The Republican Party of Florida today distributed possibly the most ridiculous press release ever.
Announcing its hotel assignment for the 2008 Republican National Convention, RPOF blasted out a petty attack on Democrats that didn't even make sense because the key fact was wrong. Florida Democrats do, in fact, have hotel space in Denver.
"It is my commitment, working with the Florida delegation and the campaigns, to find a fair solution so that Florida will be seated -- and we are confident enough that we have reserved hotel rooms for the delegates from Florida in Denver." - DNC Chairman Howard Dean, 4/2/08
Even worse, the press release exposed the Republican Party's true colors. Failing to realize how out of touch they are with regular people, the Republicans, from their ivory, special interest-funded tower, ridiculed camping.
"While many families in Florida are struggling, RPOF is living it up, spending millions on posh private jets and ritzy accommodations," Florida Democratic Party spokesman Mark Bubriski said. "Not all Floridians have the means to be pampered in fancy hotels, so for the Republican Party to insinuate that camping is second-class or undesirable is shameful. Many families choose to go camping because it's a more affordable vacation option during this Republican recession. And many people camp just because it's fun."
