Sandy Adams Opposes Giving Floridians Voice In Protecting Our Beaches; Refuses to Help Floridians Now

Today, Sandy Adams joined her fellow Republican politicians in Tallahassee by voting to "gavel-and-go," choosing to play partisan games rather than giving Floridians a voice in efforts to protect our beaches from drilling off Florida as oil continues washing ashore.

And, rather than fight to help Floridians now who are being hurt by the BP oil spill, Adams chose to abandon Florida's families and small businesses.

Her reasoning?  Empty, partisan talking points about a law that she tried to change less than two years ago to allow drilling as close as three miles from our beaches.

"It's no surprise that Sandy Adams opposes giving voters the right to ban drilling near Florida's beaches because a Constitutional Amendment would protect our state from the very threat she herself posed less than two years ago," said Eric Jotkoff, spokesman for the Florida Democratic Party.  "It's clear that Sandy Adams is more interested in scoring cheap political points, despite the fact that her rhetoric has already been discredited, than she is in protecting Florida's beaches and economy."

What's worse, after calling the session a waste of money, Adams refused to take up measures to help small businesses affected by the BP oil spill.

"By stubbornly refusing to help people suffering from the oil spill, Sandy Adams has shown she couldn't care less about wasting taxpayer time and money," said Jotkoff. "Sandy Adams made it perfectly clear to Central Florida: her real allegiances lie with oil lobbyists and her corrupt Republican buddies in Tallahassee."
