Crist Supported South Dakota-Style Abortion Ban.  "Crist told a Catholic priest that he would sign an abortion bill similar to one recently passed in South Dakota if he is elected governor. That law is considered the nation's strictest, allowing abortions only when the mother's life is at risk."  [Tampa Tribune, 3/24/06]

Crist Did Not Support True South Dakota-Style Abortion Ban.  After saying he would sign a South Dakota-style abortion ban, "Crist told an Associated Press reporter he wouldn't sign such a bill unless it also provided exceptions for rape and incest. Then he said he preferred to find ways to reduce abortions without legislation.  ‘Promoting a culture of life is preferable to me than passing laws,' he said."  [Tampa Tribune, 3/24/06]
