Franks Campaign for Senate District 3 Picks Up Steam - One Week to Go!

With one week to go before the special election for the vacant State Senate District 3 seat, Democratic candidate Suzan Franks is canvassing 13 counties, including Citrus, Marion, Leon, Jefferson, and Taylor, to bring her pro-education message to the voters. Despite the Republican Money Machine's attempts to smear her, Franks has been campaigning hard and winning over voters: ‘‘I've overcome disadvantages in other campaigns,'' she said. ‘‘What people are ready for now is change. The Republicans control the governor's office and the House and Senate. I don't represent the status quo.'' Read more about Suzan in the Tallahassee Democrat or at her website, www.suzanfranksforfloridasenate.com.

CFO Alex Sink Leads Florida's Effort to Study Climate Change

Florida Climate ChangeRecognizing the challenge that climate change poses to Florida's economy, Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink is seeking measures to prepare and protect Floridians. CFO Sink joined the Investor Network on Climate Risk (INCR), a national network of investors focused on the future financial risks and investment opportunities posed by climate change. Sink is looking for ways to bring Florida to the forefront economically by developing and investing in renewable energy sources. She is also working to increase awareness about the issue through www.floridaclimatechange.com, a website created for Floridians seeking information about climate change.

Florida Democrats in Congress Fight For Veterans

U.S. CongressFlorida's Democratic Congressional Delegation continues to lead the charge for Florida's veterans. After learning of the scandals at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the inexcusable poor care for veterans elsewhere, Florida Reps. Kathy Castor, Tim Mahoney and others urged their colleagues to support providing the Veterans Administration (VA) with necessary funds after years of budget cuts by Bush Republicans, who deprived the department of desperately needed resources. Democrats succeeded, passing the largest single increase in the VA's 77-year history. The final vote in the U.S. House was 409 to 2. What type of person would vote against long overdue care for veterans? No surprise here: Florida Republican Tom Feeney. Read more about Feeney's follies at www.feeneysfullofit.com.
