TONIGHT on TV: Dan Rather Exposes Touch-Screen Voting Machines

Tonight at 8:00 PM, the HDNet Channel will be airing an hour-long "Dan Rather Reports" special titled, "The Trouble With Touch Screens." In the segment, Dan Rather will discuss glaring problems uncovered in the production of Sarasota's touch-screen voting machines. Since the 2006 election, Democrat Christine Jennings has joined with the voters of District 13 to ensure the integrity of future elections and help end paperless voting in Florida and around the country. If you don't get the HDNet Channel, you can watch the program at http://www.hd.net/danrather.html. Also, if you miss tonight's broadcast, visit the same site for the schedule of re-airings.

Now Accepting Applications for Delegate Positions at the State Convention

In Florida, recent polls show that the presidential race couldn't be any closer. Only two percentage points - a statistical dead heat - separate the top Democratic and Republican candidates. We all know how important it is for us to push our nominee over the top and deliver Florida's 27 crucial electoral votes in 2008.

We laid the groundwork for victory in 2006, and we have to keep building in 2007. Don't wait ‘til '08! You need to get involved now. Join us for the Party's biggest quadrennial event, the 2007 State Convention - October 26-28, at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resort!  If you haven't applied through your county DEC, you can still apply directly to the Party at http://www.fladems.com/stateconvention. The deadline is August 31, 2007. Apply today!

Delegates make up the lifeblood of the State Convention and become the foot soldiers for victory in 2008. Don't miss your chance to help kick off another exciting campaign season with fellow Florida Democrats at: http://www.fladems.com/stateconvention

CFO Sink Fights For Uninsured Children

Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink wants to expand KidCare coverage to Florida's uninsured by notifying parents of their children's eligibility. ‘‘The only way we are going to reach them is through outreach,'' said Sink as she announced plans to coordinate efforts with the Department of Children and Families and the Department of Health. CFO Sink is working to expand coverage to 33,000 new children.

Palm Beach Democrats Help Local Schools

For the third straight year, the Palm Beach County Democratic Executive Committee hosted its annual summer picnic benefit for local school children. This year's event was a huge success, with teachers, elected officials, and hundreds of supporters gathering over two dozen boxes of donated school supplies for area elementary schools. "The education of our children is not a political or partisan issue, it's an American issue," said Palm Beach DEC Chair Wahid Mahmood said. Dems Look to Pick-Up District 101

Going into 2008, Florida Democrats are on offense, looking to make serious inroads in traditionally Republican counties in Southwest Florida. Earlier this year, the Party held two extremely successful fundraisers in Lee and Collier Counties, and we're not stopping there. State House District 101, which straddles portions of Collier and Broward County, is "in play" in 2008. "There is a sense of frustration with the Republican Party now and polls show many independents leaning toward voting for Democrats. The Republican Party also has fractured over issues such as immigration and the Iraq war, giving Democrats the rare advantage of being the more-unified party," said Collier Democratic Party Chairman Chuck Mohlke.
