Party’s 2007 State Convention to Feature U.S. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer For Immediate Release: October 8, 2007 TALLAHASSEE - The Florida Democratic Party is pleased to announce that U.S. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) will deliver the keynote address at the 2007 State Convention Victory ‘08 Dinner on Saturday, October 27 at Disney World. As a leader in the new Democratic Congress, Hoyer is fighting to deliver a new direction to the American people. "Congressman Hoyer is widely admired on both sides of the aisle for his principled, steadfast leadership. He's built a reputation as a skilled legislator and strong consensus builder who knows how to get things done in Washington," said Party Chairwoman Karen L. Thurman. "We're honored that one of the Democratic Party's true leaders will join us for our Convention later this month." Hoyer serves as the second highest-ranking Democrat in the U.S. House. In the past few months, he helped score major victories for the American people, including the first raise of the federal minimum wage in over a decade, a 50% cut to student loan rates to make college more affordable, and the toughest Congressional ethics regulations in history. His current priorities include fighting to bring new accountability to the war in Iraq and overriding the President's veto of children's health insurance. Now in his 14th term in Congress, Hoyer has always been a steady champion of issues important to the American people - from national security to human and civil rights. The Florida Democratic Party's 2007 State Convention, sponsored by the Walt Disney World Company, will take place at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resort in Lake Buena Vista, October 26-28. # # #
