![]() Do-Nothing Dave Weldon Fails to Stand Up for Floridians The people of Florida deserve better than Do-Nothing Dave!
Do-Nothing Dave Weldon voted against $1.15 billion in grants to help local agencies hire more offices and prosecutors -- especially important in the Orlando area, where police are battling a record high murder rate. Fortunately the grants passed the House 381-34, with Weldon being in the tiny minority of representatives to vote against common sense. Orlando police chief lauded the grants: "It's absolutely great news for Orlando and every larger city in the United States... We are reverting back to something that clearly was successful in the past. I hope the . . . president sign[s] this one." [House OKs $6B to hire more cops, Orlando Sentinel, 5/16/07]
Do-Nothing Dave Weldon said, "I don't know why the gentleman [Murtha] from Pennsylvania put forward his plan even though he is not the commander in chief." ["House Sets Iraq Deadline, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 3/24/07] Weldon also voted for escalating the war and opposed setting benchmarks to hold the Iraqis accountable for their own security.
In March, Do-Nothing Dave Weldon opposed $2.8 billion to enhance medical services for active duty forces, mobilized personnel and their family members and $1.7 billion for veterans' health care priorities including maintenance at VA health care facilities like Walter Reed. In May 2006, Weldon voted against increasing veterans' health care by $1.82 billion.
Do-Nothing Dave Weldon called screening all containers coming into Florida's ports, including Port Canaveral, "an unrealistic and unneeded requirement." [Leaders Raise Guard Over Tighter Port Security, Florida Today, 3/27/07]
Do-Nothing Dave Weldon voted against requiring the Health and Human Services (HHS) Department to negotiate with drug companies for lower prices for prescriptions drugs for our seniors. In classic, Do-Nothing Dave-style, Weldon tried to excuse his vote in a press release: "There is a saying that, "You don't fix what ain't broken."
Do-Nothing Dave Weldon opposed raising the minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25 over the next two years, refusing to give America's workers a long-overdue raise.
This January, Do-Nothing Dave Weldon voted against implementing recommendations of the Sept. 11 Commission. Not surprising, because in July 2002, Weldon voted against creating an independent 9-11 Commission.
This March, Do-Nothing Dave Weldon voted against the fiscally responsible House budget that expanded middle class tax relief and balances the budget with a surplus by 2012.
Do-Nothing Dave Weldon voted against strengthening protections for federal "whistleblowers" who report waste, fraud, and abuse, increasing disclosure of Presidential records, and providing for more timely disclosure of government documents by reforming the Freedom of Information Act.
Do-Nothing Dave Weldon voted with corrupt Republican politician Tom Delay at least 93% of the time since he has been in Congress, including 97% of the time last year.
